This game project was made as a part of the course Game Projects, a course in which students from different majors come together to work as a team and create a game while simulating a work experience similar to life in the industry.
Hats Off! is a game in which up to 4 players can participate in a fast-paced local player-versus-player experience. The main goal of the game is to collect the various hats that fall into the level while shooting the hats off of the other players. The first player to reach the maximum amount of hats or be the last bald cowboy standing wins. A player is out of the current round when they run out of hats.
Along with the ordinary hats in the level, there are also special hats that grant abilities such as the Ushanka which freezes players temporarily or the Sniper hat which shoots a high-velocity bullet that takes out two hats from the player hit. Bullets fired will also ricochet throughout the level, using this mechanic cleverly allows for interesting trick shots and adds a bit of flavor to the gameplay.
My main role in this project was to be the lead of programming. I mainly worked on the gameplay, and mechanics, putting everything into the project, and supervising the coding of the main gameplay loop/UI. I learned valuable soft skills in leadership, cooperation, and team dynamics through this project.
